Has former Barbados Labour Party (BLP) parliamentarian, and Member of Parliament, Rommell Marshall been considering leaving the ranks of the BLP for the Democratic Labour Party? Mr. Marshall has been in the news recently, after being warned by former Prime Minister Owen Arthur.
Mr. Marshall according to a Nationnews article entitled "Marshall Warned" has shown some interest in contesting the St. Joseph seat.
Mr. Arthur warned Mr. Marshall that if he plans to contest the seat as an independent candidate whenever general elections are called, it will be seen as an act hostile to the interest of the Labour Party.
Although no comment has been made on the matter, Mr. Marshall might be willing to run on a DLP ticket against his namesake Dale Marshall of the BLP.
This would mean that the DLP candidate Randal Rouse would have to relinquish the candidature of the St. Joseph seat, having fought the good fight losing the seat on three attempts, which has been a BLP stronghold since 1966, with a break only during 1981 - 1986 under Maize Barker-Welch (DLP).
Mr. Randal Rouse who has lived in the St. Joseph Constituency for some twenty years and first contested the seat under a National Democratic Party (NDP) ticket in 1994, against Richard Cheltenham (BLP), and Kay Robertson (DLP).
Will Mr. Rommell Marshall be practicing the steps of the "Hammie La" dance as he moves across the floor, while "partying", or will he truly run as an independent?
