Why is Dan Brown preaching about the circumpunct symbol? Is Dan Brown a Freemason? It certainly seems that way from the details which have been portrayed in the book, the Lost Symbol.
This book will certainly encourage those who are loss, to seek the darkness of Freemasonry.
Has Dan Brown written this book in order to recruit more persons into the brotherhood, and at the same time discrediting Christianity, as not really understanding the Bible? This is the third novel I have read by Mr. Brown, and it is the third time I have witnessed this attack on Christianity.
Dan Brown speaks of the Bible having secret meanings and should not be taken at face value. Case in point is the story of the Israelites receiving manna from heaven. This is attacked as being a secret code for a substance which is produce in the brain of Yogi's. According to the book, Heaven is code for the 'mind.' Jacob's ladder is your spine. And manna is this rare brain secretion.
It certainly takes a lot more faith to be a Freemason than to be a Christian. Dan Brown portrays elements in Freemasonry which are never easily found on websites which tend to display information on freemasonry whether in a good, or a bad light. This suggest a possible connection between Dan and the brotherhood.
The book speaks of masons drinking wine from a skull during high level initiation rites. It speaks of a painting and a statue of George Washington being portrayed as a God. It speaks of the spine of man, 33 in number which is the master number of freemasonry. The book says that every Masonic initiate learned of the symbolic staircase that he could ascend, enabling him "to participate in the mysteries of human science."
The symbol which is spoken of in the book repeatedly is the circumpunct. The symbol which it describes as one of the most used symbols in history. The circumpunct is the lost symbol according to Mr. Brown.

The oldest and most universal, this symbol fused all the ancient traditions in a single solitary image that represented the illumination of the Egyptian sun god, the triumph of alchemical gold, the wisdom of the Philosopher's Stone, the purity of the Rosicrucian Rose, the moment of Creation, the All, the dominance of the astrological sun, and even the omniscient all-seeing eye that hovered atop the unfinished pyramid.*

The book then focuses a bit on a the lost Word, which it leads the reader to believe an actual word. The book in its final stages then reveals that the lost Word was mentioned in the Book of Genesis. The book surmises that this Word is actually the word of God. This, however, is not in keeping with what the Bible says of the Word.
The Bible says that the Word is the word of God manifested in the flesh. This allowed God to communicate at the level of the flesh.
It is clear that Mr. Brown has not researched it properly, else he would have come upon John 1:1, which states, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And if he had read a bit further at John 1:14 he would realized that this Word then became flesh, and dwelt amongst us.
The Word being referred to here is Jesus, who was with God in the beginning when the earth and its inhabitants were conceived. Why does the Bible call Jesus the Word? I saw this communicated in a forum with the following comment:
"The Greek word in this text is logos and another definition is "divine expression" It also means communication. Especially in this text, everything that God is communicating to mankind is in and through Christ, His Son. So in other words, Christ is the divine living expression of all God is trying to communicate to mankind".(talkjesus.com)
Dan Brown then makes the amazing "discovery", which most Christians hold to be true that God is plural noun. But Mr. Brown got it wrong when he suggested that God is plural because of the many thoughts of men. Dan Brown appears to be saying in this book that there is no God per se, but that essence of God are the thoughts of men.
*The Almighty God in Genesis was described not as One . . . but as Many. "God is plural," Katherine whispered, "because the minds of man are plural."* God is plural because God comprises the Father the Son and The Holy Ghost, which Dan Brown's research did not uncover.
The book also speaks of Jesus being only a great prophet, like many other prophets the world have seen in the following statement:
And he thought of the words of a great prophet who had boldly declared: Nothing is hidden that will not be made known; nothing is secret that will not come to light. But Jesus is in fact part of God, and was not simply a prophet.
In summary the book The Lost Symbol puts the brotherhood of Freemasonry in a bright light, while at the same time it takes some jabs at the Christian faith in terms of its interpretation of the Bible. Dan Brown mentions in his book that science is now catching up with the religions of the world, but Mr. Brown and all the brotherhoods, and other religions will one day realize that Christianity and its literal interpretation of the Bible is the only way through Jesus Christ, The Word.
