Homosexuality in Barbados is at an all time high and it is a total embarrassment for a country which pride itself with a Church on almost every street corner.
This act has been occurring in Barbados for as long as I can remember, but tended to be concealed, but this has changed recently, and to frightening figures.
In times pass, one would only be told of men who were involved in the act, but the times have changed and more and more women are involved in lesbianism. Women are now looking, walking and talking with the mannerisms and antics of men and vice versa.
Many in Barbados have heard about leaders within our society who are involved in homosexuality, who seek favours of their peers. I once attended a Christian conference and the prophet who was from the United States mentioned that homosexuality was very prominent on the island (nothing new to those of us who live here), but what was interesting in what he said, he mentioned that we are to be careful of the types of persons we select as our leaders.
I suppose he was trying to say that if the head is bad then the body would be the same.
God has mentioned in the bible that homosexuality is an abomination. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of this very act, and as a reverend once mentioned, God might have to apologized to those cities, because of the homosexuality acts occurring in Barbados.
At any time of day in Barbados one can see a man dress as a woman, only to be recognized as a man because of the straight hips and broad shoulders, and somehow crazy looking wig.women are also not to be neglected because they too are dressing as the opposite sex.
If one was to pass late at night along Pinfold street and around our National Library one would be shocked to see the amount of men dressed as women prostituting themselves. One wonders if these areas were chosen because of the phallic symbols atop of the library.
To see big men selling themselves is truly a sad site, and it speaks to the breakdown of morals in the society. The only way we can expect to regain any of the high ground we once walked, is to turn to the word of God (Jehovah, Jesus, Holy Spirit). This statement is starting to become a cliché, but those who are able to, only need to think back to the wonderful society we once shared when we lived in a more close-knit society which had respect for God.
In December of 2008 the UN General Assembly presented a declaration against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The declaration could be used to force countries to recognize same-sex marriage...
