BRIDGETOWN, Barbados -- Thirty, first timers have been nominated in the 2012 Flame Gospel music awards scheduled for the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre on March 31 at 7.00pm, 2012.
Artiste of the year and male vocalist of the year Hoszia Hinds who is presently on tour of USA heads the list with nine nominations while De Warrior formerly dub artiste Daddy I-Roy has received three. New band A Few Good Men which has, as one of its lead singers a former Richard Stoute teen talent contest winner, Reeco Butcher, has also received three nominations.
Current teen talent winner, Everdene Smart who was voted New artiste of 2011 has also been nominated in the female vocalist category which also includes teenager and winner of the inaugural interschool singing competition, Ki'ann Browne. The former Coleridge and Parry student who impressed Dr. Bobby Jones at the Paradise in Barbados Gospel event in September last year (and prior to that the late Jessy Dixon), is nominated along with calypsonian and recording artiste, Sammijane who herself is nominated for her CD Time To Change; attorney at law Mya Daniel, and graphic artist, Larix (Lanelle Russell) complete the group.
However, by far the most challenging category is the New artiste of the year. This section features some of the finest voices in local contemporary gospel ranging from the jazzy stylings of Nicole "NICOVIA" Blackman and Larix to the sultry voices of Alaina Trotman (Alaina Tenille) who impressed at the recently held Honey Jam showcase along with Chad Blackman, Neesha Woodz and John Yarde.
