The People's Partnership Party, which is headed by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has declared that the country's children while in school uniform will travel free on public buses under the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) of Trinidad and Tobago.
That country's elderly 60 years and older will also travel free on the PTSC. The elderly in T&T over 65 years and older were allowed to travel freely, but this age has been adjusted downward. The Prime Minister told an audience of thousands that mechanisms will be put in place to facilitate the promises in the second year of her five year term in office.
These measures were taken in celebration of the first anniversary of the People's Partnership government on May 24, 2011. The People's Partnership is a political coalition in Trinidad and Tobago between five political parties.
Persad-Bissessar said, "I am alive. We are alive...The People's Partnership is alive and kicking. One year later, we are stronger than ever."
She said the Partnership had confounded the naysayers and prophets of doom and gloom who predicted that it would collapse.
