Current Pro-Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of the West Indies Open Campus has been tipped through Barbadostoday as the new Principal of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill Campus.
Professor Barriteau is expected to be successor to Sir Hilary Beckles starting May 1. Sir Hilary Beckles in September last year after a REPORT FROM THE SEARCH COMMITTEE ESTABLISHED TO IDENTIFY A NEW VICE-CHANCELLOR AND AGREED TO APPOINT SIR HILARY BECKLES AS THE NEXT VICE-CHANCELLOR OF THE UNIVERSITY WITH EFFECT FROM MAY 1, 2015.
The Chair of the Search Committee Dr. Marshall Hall noted that the advertisement for the post attracted in excess of 50 applicants from all over the world and the Search Committee eventually came up with an initial short-list of seven which was eventually whittled down to three candidates who were invited to be interviewed. As a result of the interview and subsequent discussions, the Committee arrived at a consensus on Sir Hilary as the preferred candidate.
Professor Barriteau assumed office Principal of the University of the West Indies Open Campus on August 1, 2014, succeeding Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Hazel Simmons-McDonald
The 60 year old professor Grenadian by birth, with a distinguished record as a Caribbean scholar and administrator, Professor Barriteau has served in various roles at The University of the West Indies for more than 30 years. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Howard University, an MPA in Public Sector Financial Management from New York University and a BSc, Upper Second Honours in Public Administration and Accounting from The University of the West Indies. She also holds a professional certificate in editing and scholarly publishing from the International Rice Research Institute in Los Baños, the Philippines.
