Rihanna during her fifth album tour, will be performing in her homeland of Barbados on August 5th, 2011 for the first time since becoming a world renown artist, as the opportunity has now presented itself. Rihanna will be making some 80-something performing appearances across the globe, during this tour.
The "Loud" Tour will be held at The Kensington Oval. Ticket availability and price should soon be announced.
The "Loud" album was released November 12, 2010, on Def Jam Recordings. Loud received positive reviews from most music critics, who complimented its upbeat material and Rihanna's performance. It debuted at number one on the Canadian and Swiss Albums Chart. Loud also entered at number three on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 207,000 copies in its first week in the United States. In the United Kingdom, the album became the fourth best-selling album of 2010.
Rihanna who is one of the best-selling artists of all time with more than 30 million records and 100 million singles sold, Rihanna has signed a multi-year deal with The Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) to exclusively promote her hometown island of Barbados as a tourist destination. The three-year partnership officially kicks off in Bridgetown, Barbados on August 5, 2011 with a full-length concert of her current "Loud" tour produced by the BTA and Roc Nation.
"Barbados is a place like no other and one of the reasons for this is the spirit and national pride of our people," said Rihanna. "I want each and every visitor to this beautiful island to experience what makes this destination different from all others and that is the spirit and warmth of my fellow Barbadians."
As an ambassador for the island of Barbados, over the next three years, Rihanna will exclusively promote the destination through advertising campaigns, promotional appearances and via her social media presence. In addition to her concert in Barbados this summer, Rihanna will promote travel to the island from Brazil during her appearance on tour in September.
"In the hearts of every Barbadian, Rihanna is known as the girl down the road, but to the world she has become a musical sensation and social phenomenon," said Barbados' Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Richard L. Sealy. "She is a great source of national pride to Barbados and we are thrilled to enter into this formal partnership to promote Barbados as a leading tourist destination."
The Rihanna "Loud" Tour will be held immediately following the climax of the 2011 Crop Over Festival, and is expected to capitalize on Bajan Yankees, and other visitors to the island.
Many will wonder if a Rihanna concert on the heels of Barbados' most popular national festival will have an impact on the festival, and the answer is yes, as individuals who don't usually come to Barbados for the Crop Over Festival, and are attending the Rihanna event, could get a taste of Crop Over 2011.
The international media who will be on the shores of Barbados to cover the Rihanna event, and those who are here to cover Crop Over 2011 will get coverage of two major events for their respective news organisations.
A world renown artist performing on the heels on a major festival in the Caribbean is nothing new, as only last year, Beyonce would have perform in Trinidad and Tobago on her final leg of her "I AM" tour. Both events were a success.
The National Cultural Foundation (NCF), will be partnering with the BTA to promote various events which includes the Rihanna "LOUD" Concert. The Rihanna "homecoming concert" will therefore be offered as a packaged deal with this country's popular Cohobblopot event scheduled for July 31, 2011, will feature Machel Montano HD (High Definition) out of Trinidad and Tobago. Machel Montano HD featured in Trinidad when Beyonce performed there last year.
Tickets for the LOUD tour will be available as of Monday July 11th 2011 from all of the National Cultural Foundation box offices. Those purchasing tickets early for the Cohobblopot, and the Rihanna "Loud" tour can do so at $50 and $75 respectively, or the bundled ticket for the two shows at the special price of $110 (all prices are in Barbados dollars - 1US=2BDS approx.)
